Every photograph on this website does indeed tell a story. The pictures were taken in wild settings that happened to have indigenous human settlements nearby. From the vast savannahs to the lush jungles photographed here, the humans and animals who are the subject of these photos have not only learned to live with one another, but in some cases have also come to value one another’s presence. In the process, they have achieved a healthy interdependence even where in some cases there was once a history of deadly conflict between them. The eternal preservation of these beautiful species of animals is not only critical to the survival of fragile ecosystems already threatened by changing climate and residential/industrial expansion, but their conservation also dignifies their individual lives as science continues to learn more and more about their rich and often complex personalities, skill sets and even emotions. Though the details and circumstances of their struggle for survival on this planet may differ from our own, the core issues and the feelings of fear/anxiety evoked in us and them… are ultimately the same.
I have decided not to provide an explanation of each and every photo on this website, rather allowing the viewer to use their own imagination about the lives of these animals and people. In the following paragraphs, I will however provide some background information about the places where the photographs were taken and the indigenous human communities represented.
